A converter is going to be needed for the 4-way harness on your 1998 Volvo V70 in order to ensure your trailer's lights
function properly with the wiring of your Volv, and the most economical option for a harness that fits is from Hopkins:
- Hopkins Active Tail Light Converter with Install Kit # 46255
Since it sounds like you plan on doing some towing, if you also need a hitch and ball mount, here are the correct parts for your '98 V70:

The brake lights and turn signals are sent along the same circuit for trailer wiring so it's a bit odd that the turn signals are working fine but the brake lights aren't powering on with the Tekonsha Harness # 118463 installed. Most likely the culprit is a bad or weak ground on the harness. Since brake lights require a more constant power draw when activated a weak ground might be allowing enough power for the turn signals but not enough to fully power the lights when the brakes are applied.... view full answer...

The rain cover you would want to use with the MaxxAir MaxxFan part # MA00A04401K that you referenced is the # MA00-955003 which has the correct hinge design you would need.

The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36297 is a Class II, 1-1/4" receiver that fits your 2002 Volvo V70 XC. Currently there are no Class III 2" Receivers for your Volvo. This receiver has a maximum tongue weight rating of 300lbs and towing capacity of 3,500lbs. Be sure that you do not exceed the maximum rating given from Volvo for your V70 XC.

We do carry a similar bike rack that will fit the factory cross bars that run side to side on your 2009 Volvo V70. Take a look at the Thule UpRide Wheel-Mount Bike Carrier - Roof Mount, # TH599000. You do not have to remove the front wheel to use this rack. It will accommodate 20 to 29 inch bike tires that are up to 3 inches wide.
Yakima does not list the FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier, # Y02103, as a fit for your Volvo. view full answer...
We do offer 4-pole wiring harness kits for your 1998 Volvo V70 and these are all hard-wired types displayed on the linked page. These kits wire in to the leads at the Volvo's taillights. None of these is a plug-and-play option which might be available from a Volvo dealership, albeit at a premium price, IF it is available.
Of the available options I suggest the reliable Tekonsha # C59496 for its combination of reasonable price and high 7.5-amp taillight circuit current capacity which will... view full answer...
If your trailer has a 7-Way connector, then it either already has electric brakes or is set up for electric brakes. Either way, you would not want to use the pin and wiring for the electric brake to charge a battery because it is too small a gauge for this application. A 7-Way connector already has a pin for a 12 volt accessory. If you are looking at the face of the trailer side 7-Way, it is in the 11 oclock position. This wire is only large enough to maintain a battery but will not charge... view full answer...
The Curt trailer hitch # C12318 and Swagman bike rack # S64650 are compatible with each other and your 2005 Volvo V70. But with the Curt hitch, Curt requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, for any non-trailer load such as a bike rack. The platform style rack would be difficult to use with the strap.
For a hitch that does not require the strap use Draw-Tite hitch # 36297. I have linked a video showing installation on a similar vehicle.
The Swagman XC bike rack is a basic platform... view full answer...
I recommend going with a Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver. This will allow you to gain full use of your Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack # TH9025XT on your 2008 Volvo V70 and it will be compatible with more accessories than a 1-1/4" receiver is.
Between the Draw-Tite # 75916 and the Curt # 13266 I recommend going with the Draw-Tite option over the Curt as the Curt requires the use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 for any non-trailer loads per the Curt warranty.

The hitch ball that you need depends on what size hitch ball the coupler requires on the trailer that you are towing. The coupler on a trailer requires a specific size hitch ball, however some couplers are adjustable for different ball sizes. There should be a stamp somewhere on the coupler of your trailer saying what size ball is required.
If you will be carrying hitch mounted accessories such as a bike rack or cargo carrier with this trailer hitch, then you will need a stabilization... view full answer...
The wiring in your 2002 Volvo V70 XC All Wheel Drive is not heavy enough to handle the additional power demand from trailer lights so this is why the 4-pole harnesses we offer for it, such as Curt # C59236 and Tow Ready # 119179KIT, use a direct battery connection to get the actual power that will operate the trailer lights. With this type of powered harness the vehicle wiring only acts like a switch to tell the converter to draw power from the battery and send it through the 4-pole connector... view full answer...

Installation of a powered converter like # 46255 should not affect the bulb out feature on your 2--6 Volvo V70. The harness is only getting input signals from the tail light wiring on the vehicle and the power is coming from the vehicle. The bulb out feature should still function normally.
If the trailer has LED lights it is possible that the bulb out sensor could trip. If that happens you could install load resistors, # DI34ZR on the affected circuits on the trailer wiring. The load... view full answer...
The 59146 is not a harness we carry. The harness should draw adequate power from the battery to power the converter and the trailer lights but we don't have the confirmed fit on your vehicle. Curt does not confirm fits for the converters, so I cannot confirm it on their end either. What I can confirm is the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236. This has been tested to work with your 2001 Volvo V70. This converter will allow more amperage for... view full answer...
The only catalytic converter we have available that is confirmed to fit your 2006 Volvo V70 is the MagnaFlow Heavy Metal Loaded # MF99009HM. This converter does feature a 3 inch inlet/outlet but it does not include O2 sensor ports.
The MagnaFlow Stainless Steel # MF94269 that you mentioned may fit with some modification on your Volvo, but I cannot confirm if it will work. It does have the needed 3 inch inlet/outlet and is compatible with your engine size. It includes two O2 sensor ports.... view full answer...
A 2 inch deep x 2-1/2 inch wide portion needs to be trimmed from the underside of the fascia on your 2010 Volvo V70 for installation of CURT Class II 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # C12066.
If you will examine the instructions for the hitch install which I have linked to, CURT provides a diagram that shows exactly where and how much of the fascia needs to be trimmed away. See figure 9 on page 8 of the instructions. I am also including a picture that will show the trimming.

If you are new to installing trunk mount bike racks it certainly can seem very difficult. It is actually easier on some vehicles than on others. I have a hatch back and use the Thule OutWay # TH45JV . It is the easiest trunk mount rack to install on the planet.
The OutWay uses only 2 rubber coated straps instead of the 6 straps of other carriers. One person can easily install this rack. I have included a video to show you how it works.
