Class I trailer hitches like # 24880 can only support 2 bikes even if the rack can hold more. The issue is not the weight of the bikes but how far the weight is from the receiver. A third or more bikes on a Class I hitch puts too much stress on the hitch and can result in loss of hitch and damage to the vehicle. It is like using a long bar to loosen a lug nut when changing a tire.
The Yakima RidgeBack, # Y02458, can fit a Class I trailer hitch but it would be limited to carrying 2 bikes... view full answer...
We do have a trailer hitch that will allow you to carry the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack # TH9058 with your 2018 Volkswagen Passat.
The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24880 is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. Since the Roadway is compatible with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitch receivers you will be able to use it with this hitch. I have attached an installation video on a 2015 Volkswagen Passat for you to reference.
Please note that the Roadway bike rack does not come with... view full answer...
I personally like the Yakima roof rack systems over the Rhino-Rack roof racks because they are a higher quality, you don't have to cut the rubber strip in the top for T-Slot accessories, and Yakima has adjustments in the leg kits that help to fine-tune their fits. With that being said, if you like the look of the Rhino-Rack ROC25 Roof Rack # RR72MR a little more for your 2015 Volkswagen Passat SE then there is absolutely nothing wrong with going that route and you will be happy with the... view full answer...
The Hopkins Backup Sensor System - Audible Alert # HM60100VA or the Smart Hitch camera with sensors # HM60195VA uses a wire that can be run either under the bumper or through it. I recommend drilling a hole just big enough for the connector on the wire through the bumper so you can have a clean look. You will then run the wire through a rubber grommet seal to access your wiring or along a trim panel to get to the wiring location without pinching or crimping the wires. view full answer...
Thank you for your purchase and for your return business! The Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24880 for your 2015 Volkswagen Passat is a Class I hitch. This means that the bike rack you use will need to be rated for use with a Class I hitch and it is limited to 2 bikes.
The most popular compatible bike rack for owner's of the 2015 Passat is the Kuat Transfer # KU74FR. This is a platform style rack that holds the bikes at the wheels. The U-shaped frame makes loading and unloading the bikes easier,... view full answer...
Aftermarket product manufacturers will typically make products for vehicles even if the vehicle manufacturer recommends against it if there is a high enough demand, such as a roof rack for the Passat. Basically, Rhino-Rack has determined that their roof rack will fit, however, if you install the roof rack and any damage were to occur to your vehicle, Volkswagen would not cover the damage under their warranty.
The good news is that consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the... view full answer...
The front crossbar of the Rhino Rack you mentioned was replaced with the very similar RR39FR roof rack on your 2002 VW Passat and is going to be slightly more than 39 inches.
For this rack a wind fairing that is going to work great for you is the Rhino Rack # RRRF2, which is a 38" fairing. view full answer...
It shouldn't be a problem, but you first need to consult the owner's manual of your 2004 Volkswagen Passat to determine what the towing capacities are for your vehicle. As long as you stay under those capacities with your small trailer and moped you should be fine. If there are any restrictions on towing with your vehicle they will be listed here as well.
First you will want to start with a hitch, for that I would recommend the Curt part # 11164. This hitch has a 2,000 lb trailer capacity... view full answer...
Yes, if you added a 4-way to the 7-way trailer wiring of your tow vehicle you could use the Hopkins magnetic tow lights part # C6304 that you referenced and the tow dolly taillights will still function as well. To easily add a 4-way you could use the part # 118384 which will plug inline with your 7-way. view full answer...
It's possible that you are drawing too much amperage on the running light circuit of the part # 118562 that you installed. The running light circuit can only draw up to 7.5 amps so if you have a lot of running lights/clearance lights on your trailer you could be asking too much of the converter box.
First thing I would try is finding a new place for the ground circuit of the harness. Improving the ground could potentially help as well.
If you test the running light circuit of the 4-way... view full answer...

Volkswagen introduced their Audi-developed 1.8L TSI engine and 6-speed automatic transmission for the Passat in February 2008. However, you are correct that we do not show this engine option among those on our hitch fit guide.
I contacted Curt Manufacturing and they were able to confirm the fit of their 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch # C11232 on your 1.8L Passat. The hitch includes the required installation hardware and instructions, which are also linked for you. The linked hitch installation... view full answer...
For your 2017 Volkswagen Passat I recommend going with the Demco Kar Kaddy X Tow Dolly w/ Disc Brakes - Tilt Bed Frame # DM9713093.
This tow dolly has plenty of capacity to be able to handle the weight of your Passat at 4,800-lbs, a tilting bed frame which is great for unloading and loading your toad, and also has a disc braking system and a E-Z latch surge brake coupler so you don't need to buy a 7-way or brake controller. view full answer...
Since your 2001 Volkswagen Passat is a front wheel drive version the correct Curt trailer hitch you'd need is actually the # C11054. For a ball mount you'd have to use the part # C45521 and then for wiring # C59236 that you referenced. view full answer...
The Curt wiring harness # C56388 is a standard 4-way connector that's commonly used in the United States. It powers the running, brake, and turn signals on a trailer. In order to connect your trailer with a European connector you'll need to replace the connector with a standard trailer side 4-way like part # HM38134. You'll need to determine which wires on the trailer are for each function and wire them into the new 4-way. On the 4-way the white wire needs to be grounded to a clean... view full answer...
The install of the Curt hitch part # C11232 you have for your 2014 Volkswagen Passat does not require the removal of any heat shields. It actually installs on top of a portion of one.

The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236, is designed to convert the European wiring on your 2007 Volkswagen Passat to the standard trailer wiring configuration used in the United States. This configuration has 4 wires, one is a ground wire (white), one is a taillight wire (brown), one is the left turn and stop light wire (yellow) and one is the right turn and stop light wire (green).
