We have heard that the stoplight switch on your 2001 Toyota Tundra can be difficult to access. Normally you would need to find the right wire and then use a quick splice like part # SWC501746-1 to tap into the circuit.

The only fuse of the Curt trailer wiring kit part # C55738 is in the red fuse holder you referenced. Most likely if your fuse is good but it's still not working the problem is the converter box. You can test this with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. If there is voltage on the input side of the box when taillight circuits are applied but none on output side the converter box is fried and is in need of replacing the entire kit since they are not available separately. view full answer...
The three main things that could be causing your issue are:
1) Insufficient brake adjustment. The adjusters should be turned 'out' until you can't turn the wheel by hand when it's jacked up off the ground. Then the adjusters should be backed off by 10 or so clicks so there's still a slight drag from the brake shoes.

It sounds like the sensitivity is set high. The closer the sensitivity lever is to the driver, the more aggressive the brakes will be.

I have a solution for this problem. As you have explained, sometimes trailer frame mounted accessories can interfere with the installation of weight distribution and/or sway control. It sounds like there is a bad ground connection somewhere on the trailer because your lights are working when they are not put under a load. Whenever your tail lights are on and then you apply the brakes, the system is under max amp load, and with a bad ground the lights cannot support all the amps. From what I have been able to gather, the 2001 Toyota Tundra did not come with a tow package that included trailer wiring connections. This could mean that it was done aftermarket and could have been wired incorrectly by a previous owner. Or there could be a bad ground issue causing the malfunction. With a lot of new trailer jacks they can start off stiff for some reason including the Lippert Smart Jack # LC285318. Usually manually running them up and down once or twice is enough to "break in" the jack.
What probably happened with the fuse is the jack motor was trying to overcome that stiffness and in the process over drew power from the battery causing the fuse to blow. It is unlikely that you will have the problem again. view full answer...

That issue is going to be fixed by unplugging the vehicle battery for a minute then plugging it back in. Your factory brake controller's error messages were connected to the dash display you have on the truck so since the controller is no longer connected it's sending a fault message to the dash of your truck. view full answer...
It sounds as if the ground wire for the brake controller is not making a good connection. I would try finding a good ground location to connect the extra ground wire that is installed on the brake controller wiring harness, # 3040-P.
