Brake controllers don't always work with 7-way circuit testers like you mentioned. The brake controller needs to see the amperage draw of brake magnets to know that a trailer is connected and a 7-way circuit tester won't provide that. This prevents the controller from registering like what you mentioned. Since the controller worked when you hooked it up to a trailer that means it should be fine. That would depend on what circuit you use as the activation circuit for the Rear View Safety G-Series Backup Camera System # RVS-776718-CT that you referenced. If you were to use the reverse light circuit then it would only activate when in reverse but if you were to pick the running light circuit you could allow it to activate any time you turn on the vehicle headlights or running lights. view full answer...
