You can use safety cables instead of chains if your trailer is under the weight rating of the cable. The safety cables are made from nylon coated steel. I do not recommend using the Curt 7500 lb rated safety cable part # C80176 because that would be cutting it pretty close with the weight of your trailer.
I recommend Blue Ox Hook Safety cables part # BX88197 that are rated for 10,000 lbs. The higher up you go in weight rating with safety cables the longer the cables get. The Blue Ox cables... view full answer...
There are two sets of safety cables that are required by law for all flat-towing application. There are what is referred to as short and long safety cabes. Short safety cables connect the base plates to the vehicle and long safety cables connect the base plates to the RV's trailer hitch.
The short safety cables included with the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit part # BX3824 can be wrapped around anywhere on the vehicle's frame and base plates crossbar. The location of the short cables are not... view full answer...
The addition of a dual hitch receiver adapter like part # RM-077-4 may require longer safety cables, but that will depend on the length of your current safety cables. This adapter will add 10-1/4 inches between the tow vehicle and the towed vehicle. If your current cables will not stretch an additional 10-1/4 inches, you can use the Roadmaster 10 Inch Safety Cable Extension, # RM-650648-10. You will need two of these extensions.
If you have not purchased safety cables yet, I recommend... view full answer...
The Falcon tow bar, # RM-522, has a channel to run the safety cables through so you will want to use straight safety cables like the 64 inch Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables, # RM-645. Safety cables are not included and must be purchased separately.
We also have a towing combo kit, # RM-9243-1, that includes the safety cables and accessories needed for the RM-522 Falcon tow bar. Let me know if you need further assistance. view full answer...
I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster about the RoadMaster 8" Safety Cable Extensions part # RM-910648-8 and they stated that each cable is rated for 8,000 lbs but that does not means it will give you 16,000 lbs in total as if one were to break, you will still only have a 8,000 lb capacity. This is going to be true for most safety cables and chains. If you need something higher then we have the Demco Safety Cable Extensions part # DM9523064 which are rated at 14,000 lbs and have a 12" extension.... view full answer...
Good question. The Blue Ox Base Plate # BLU37UR for the 2023 Ford F-250 does indeed come with a pair of cables. These cables are actually part of the installation hardware, and are not the tow bar safety cables. The included cables are called "permanent safety cables" and are used to help secure the base plate to the frame of the vehicle. You can see this in step 5 of the instructions which is pictured below.
If you are in need of a pair of safety cables to go with your tow bar, I recommend... view full answer...
The Roadmaster Safety Cable Extensions # RM-910648-8 add an extra 8" to your Roadmaster Tow Bar Safety Cables. The extensions come as a pair, so you will be able to add 8" to both sides of your safety cables when you buy one set. Depending on how much length you need, these safety cables will help your reach under the tow bar.
These extenders have a weight capacity of 8,000 lbs. and include the quick links.
I attached a review video for these extenders which you may want to check out. view full answer...
The safety cables I highly recommend are from Roadmaster, the Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables. These cables are galvanized steel with a strong vinyl coating for protection and hooks that are forged steel for optimal strength. You can get them in either 64 inch or 76 inch lengths:
- 64 Inches (Single Hook): Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 8,000 lbs # RM-645
- 64 Inches (Double Hook): RoadMaster 64" Double Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 10,000 lbs # RM-648

The Roadmaster Sterling tow bar Item # RM-576 is compatible with the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit Item # RM-524431-5 however, the safety cables are not. The current safety cables would need to be removed and you would not use the quick disconnect bar. Each arm will pin directly to the removable tabs on the baseplate. For safety cables I recommend RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 8,000 lbs Item # RM-645-76.
Installing these on the tow bar is simple. Make... view full answer...
The difference between coiled safety cables like # RM-643, and straight cables like # RM-645, other than the design, is the applications for which you would use each. For example, some tow bars, like # RM-422, have built in safety cable channels which would ideally work with straight cables. The channels hold the coils up so that they do not get caught on anything or drag on the ground. So for a tow bar with built-in channels, I recommend straight cables.

Yes, you could use the coiled safety cables # RM-643 in place of safety chains when towing your trailer. Just make sure that the trailer is under the 6,000 pound capacity of the cables. view full answer...
Since your original safety cables are 67 inches, I recommend The Roadmaster EZ Hook Safety Cables # RM-655-68.
These cables are designed to work with all Roadmaster mounting brackets with quick-disconnects. The safety cables are aircraft type, galvanized steel with a drop-forged steel hook with spring loaded latches. The Roadmaster EZ Hook Safety Cables # RM-655-64 would be to short.

The Demco Dominator Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511008 uses 54" safety cables. The original part is listed as #13273 Straight Safety Cable w/Hooks 54” with the replacement being the 54” Safety Cable Kit (complete) Standard # DM9523051 that you were looking at. The weight capacity listed for cables is for the pair. For example the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 7,500lbs # BX88196 you referenced would have a 3,750lb capacity per cable. Since Roadmaster doesn't have a 7,500lb cable I'm assuming you're referencing the RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645-76. I've drawn up some dimensions for these two cables as well as the Demco Coiled Safety Cables # DM9523003 you referenced below. view full answer...
I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster and he told me that because the holes on the base plate are so small, the short safety cables of the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 1528-3 are used to connect directly to the safety cables from your RV. You will need another set of coming from your RV to hook to cables on the base plate.
I recommend the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643. I recommend these cables because the fact that they are coiled up to keep them... view full answer...
Yes you can use safety cables in place of safety chains as long as they are rated for the weight of the trailer. Chains are typically a little easier to use in this application though since you can manipulate the length of them easier by twisting them but you can use a cable set like the part # C80151 if you wanted. These have a 5,000 lb capacity. view full answer...
