Video Transcript for Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System Review

Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System. This is going to be an upgraded bump stop for the front end of your vehicle, whether it be a car like the 4Runner here or a motor home. These are gonna come in a variety of different kits and fits with different capacities and help stabilize the front end of your vehicle. Let's check it out.

So why would you be looking for something on the front end of the suspension enhancement side A lot of people are pretty familiar with airbags on the rear axle, and a lot of those suspension enhancement components are used in towing applications or maybe truck beds where you've got really heavy loads in the bed and you need extra support at the back of the vehicle. Now what the front end can do is stabilize that front end, if you do have something like a front mounted hitch, maybe a plow on a truck, or on a larger vehicle or even a smaller vehicle like this, it does help stabilize body roll a lot because these are going to be a lot beefier than the factory suspension and the factory bump stops, that is, and help limit that side to side movement as we're taking turns or driving down in like really windy conditions on the highway. So this will give a significant upgrade for those applications. As far as the construction for these goes it's going to be a hollow Aeon rubber material with a progressive spring rate. Now, what the progressive spring rate means is the more this compresses, the more pressure it has, the more it's going to work at returning the vehicle to its natural position.

So it's just going to resist more and more as it gets further compressed. As for the installation process, this particular one that I've been holding is for the 4Runner, and this one is a very basic kit. It really just has a threaded end with a bolt and a plate on the inside, but this just spreads into a factory weld done on the 4Runner. Very straightforward install. But for all the other different fits and kits, those are gonna have custom brackets and their own hardware that come with it.

So no matter what one you end up going with, if it's a fit for your vehicle, it's going to be custom fit. So the installation should be just a straightforward bolt on process. Now obviously that can vary depending on the kit and what vehicle you're putting it on, especially on the motor home side of things. But for the most part, you should be able to have a very straightforward install process with any of these kits you pick out. And to make sure you find the right kit for you, be sure to enter your vehicle information into our fit guide and use that to narrow down for the custom fit options available for your vehicle.

If you're considering some front suspension enhancement, I do think that these bump stops from Timbren are a really solid option. From the testing we did in installation on our 4Runner, they performed great. They reduced a ton of the body roll and really helped when we're going over speed bumps and just aggressive driving conditions where we need that extra support. Whether you've got a truck with a plow on it, or a motor home that you're trying to reduce body roll on, something like this can be be a huge help and it's a very straightforward solution. But that'll do it for a look at the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System Bump Stops. Thanks for watching.

The bolt holes wouln,t line up they were like a half hole off and the angle on the the drivers side was was slightly strong but it would have worked if the bolt holes were in the correct location. I could have slotted them but for the money these cost you should just be able to bolt them on. I returned them. etrailer was easy to work with and when I explained what was going on they sent me out a return label right away

by:

The install took a lot longer than I thought. the Right side top hole in bracket did not line up with the hole in truck frame. I had to redrill hole. Fastner key was very diffuclut to stay in place, it kept falling out of hole. install time was 3 hours. lucky I had a magnet to retrieve fastner key. couldnt use washer on right bottom bolt. Recomend letting a mechanic in shop do the install.

They did not fit had to have them customized for my f-150 double checked part number for my truck was right needed it to pickup a new camper that weekend so had to pay works well but a hassle

2017 Ford F-150

went on as advertised. easy installation, haven't tried with wait yet

by:

I know it will be lovely when loaded or the trailer on. However,it rides like a wagon empty with brand new premium shocks and struts empty. Thud thud thud. You really cannot feel the shocks or suspension. Found exact same item plentiful for 60 bucks on eBay after I bought these for 250. I may cut these in half or put air bag on. I do not like the ride empty. No hard feelings. It is a good product maybe just not for me.

Installation was a breeze, removed old bump stops installed Timbrens in about 30 minutes. Haven’t put a load on them yet so I’ll update later. Installed on a 2008 Silverado 2500HD..

by:

About a 1/2 inch difference in gap at the bump stop perch but still within parameters. Truck sits perfect with trailer attached. Haven’t towed yet. After towing if they perform like they should will upgrade to a 5 star. Easy to install, definitely needed 2x4 and jack. 2011 Silverado ext cab with 30 ft Genisis 5th wheel.

by:

Was able to install these with a 15mm flex head ratchet wrench and lifted the rear of the truck to make it easier. 30 minutes to take off 4 nuts and put em back on. 2 minutes assembling the timbrens with the added spacer. I have a f350 with a salter and plow. Loaded with salt the lights shoot up and in the snow ?? it’s like hitting hyper drive and you’re blinded. These helped big time. Very happy so far.

by:

The pro: The longer, heavier bump stops worked great when hauling my mustang home from Chicago. The truck stayed level and handled great.
The con: I had to remove the bump stops for everyday use. They limited my suspension travel causing a stiffer ride.

by:

I am so glad I bought these for my truck. I was able to install them myself using a jack and jackstands. The ride is bit rougher now; but the suspension is totally awesome compared to before. I am able to haul a bit more weight when needed.

by:

Haven’t had it on long, but so far so good. 1999 F350 dually. Bolted up nicely. Total job took 10 minutes. Have hauled two gooseneck loads of hay and truck drives SO much better. Nice and level. Money well spent so far.

by:

très bon produit , reçu dans les délais et s'ajuste parfaitement . Assurez-vous de nettoyer le receptacle cela facilite l'installation.

The Timbren SES (Bump Stop) replacement for the 3rd Gen Sequoia is a simple and effetive solution to reduce vehicle sag when trailering heavy loads. You definately want to use the included spacer as the pics will show I still had 2 finger clearance above the axle to allow for OEM suspension travel. I pulled my 29ft boat back to back with / without the Timbren bump stops for a ride quality test. Without the bump stops, my 2024 Sequoia rear end was crushed, resulting in a rough ride and poor handling characteristics. With the Timbern bump stops, the rear sag was reduced signifincantly, and the vehicle drove much better. YES, you will feel and occasional bottom out feeling on abrupt G-out dips... But it is no worse than without the Timberns as the stock springs were crushed. My daily drive feels exactly the same as I have the perfect gap between the Timbren bump stop and the axle allowing the OEM suspension to float over road surface without engaging the bump stops. VERDICT: Time will tell with varied passenger loads, speeds, road surface bumps etc., but my initial impression is 7 out of 10. Ultimately, I would prefer air bags, and may install them along with the Timbrens whih I can swap back to the oem bump stop in less than 15 minutes. NOTE: I was able to install the Timbren bump stops without going under the Sequoia. I simply raised the vehicle frame aprox. 4" withoug picking up the rear tire. This gave me adequate room to reach in over the tire and remove the 3 12MM bolts holding the OEM bump stop in place with a 3/8" ratchet and a 4" extension. Then, I put the Timbren bump stop in place and lightly threaded the upper bolt to hold in place. After installing the two lower bolts and smart torquing, then you tighten the top bolt. This allows the bracket to seat against the frame fully as the top bolt hole is slotted to allow movement druing install. Pics will show spacers installed above the bump stops, Installed bump stops unloaded with 2 finger gap, spacers loaded with 750 lbs of tongue weight, and lastly, will show Sequoia stance while loaded. NOTE: The last picture will show my Sequoia loaded WITHOUT the Timbren SES (Bump Stops) and the vehicle is sagging heavily.

The timbrens actually did what they were suppose to do. However, once I starter driving out west I notice the timbrens were riding on the axle which cause the speedometer to jump around depending on the road. I would recommend them if you are hauling or towing a camper or RV. I was going to contact etrailer about maybe removing a spacer for one set however the other set came as one unit. The bottom line is the Timbrens does stabilize your load for safe travels. I will be contacting etrailer soon to assist in correcting the problem...Road trip from Idaho,Colorado,Wyoming, and Utah were beautiful... Thank you etrailer

by:

Definitely a must have when towing..stiff without a load but night and day difference while towing my travel trailer, better traction, steering and braking. Easy quick install..only issue I had was with the long bolts they sent with the spacer kit (optional for lift) the bolt diameter was too wide to fit through the holes on the bracket..but a trip to the local hardware store took care of that.

by:

Pros: Cheaper and easier to install than airbags, do the job when load is enough to compress the shock, with added weight or towing, then it stiffens the rear very nicely.
Cons: Doesn't do anything until there is 2-3cm of compressed shock. It sits above the contact point, doesn't touch. Under normal driving, there is no benefit/improved stiffness/anti sway in rear or a leveling of the factory rear sag in a 2022 or newer Toyota Tundra.
If had it to do over, would have put some kind of spacer in between product and upper included bracket, the supplied bolt is long enough to accommodate, to eliminate the gap, and lift the rear 1-2 cm. Should do it anyway, maybe when swapping to summer wheels next month.

I’d seen similar products rated in the 4,000 lb ratings but I went with these. I’m not a mechanic but I removed the factory bump stops and installed both these in 30 minutes or less. I used my rolling jack and lifted from the drop hitch and easily removed the old ones and soapy water and 1/4 twist and these were on. Placed a block of wood in the space between these coils and lowered the jacks then pressed it with my tractor to confirm full engagement. I carry a lot of tools on a 2020 Chevy 2500 I do feel a bit of butt bounce on large bumps but other than that I’m very pleased.

by:

The order with Will at etrailer was great. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, Installation was not easy but not too bad, The hardest part was removing the factory pieces I removed them from below which was a blind nut removal operation. This is on a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter motorhome. After removal of the factory pieces I discovered that access is much easier on top between the tire and the mud flap, I turned the front wheels inward and they didn't have to be removed. The front of the motorhome had to be raised quite a bit to get the Timbren piece jnserted. Also I learned to tighten the bolt and nut in the Timbren bumper as much as possible before installation because there is no access to the bolt head when tightening the top nut to keep the bolt from turning, preventing tightening the nut.

by:

First off the product was beat up with paint/power coating missing in several places on both. I was putting on a brand new truck with less than 800 miles on it so I elected to touch up before install. I’ve hear a lot about Timbren but never had them. I had airbags on my F350 but when I switched to a new Tundra I went with Timbrens. I’m a bit disappointed in the ride. Feels like I can feel a “bump” in the truck from the rubber pick hitting the axle when I go on a bumpy road. Thinking I should have went with airbags. As far as having a load on the truck and helping with the squat, they do as they are advertised.

by:

I bought these to prevent the "squat" of carrying a load in a Ram 1500.It took only 30 minutes to install. Now when carrying a load or towing a travel trailer the truck is a better position.
The only thing you will notice is the smoothness of the ride. It's not, it is stiff. I'd rather have the stiff than the nose pointing to the moon.

by:

Converted a E-150 to a camper van and the sag was almost 2 inches in the back compared to the front. Installed and now only out 3/4 inch. Van is level and now I can also use my trailer without fear of the van bottoming out. Easy to install. Awesome product!

by:

Product arrived 2 days earlier than expected but due to lack of care for packing metal items one of the metal brackets has chipped paint as per photo. Some of the pieces appear to be previously used.

by:

These work great for giving you a solid towing experience when loaded heavy; however, when driving empty you definitely get the jounce bumper “into the air” experience when driving on moderate to rough roads. I have the recommended gap installed between the axle and the timbrens, but with terrible midwest roads and highways it doesn’t seem to be enough gap. Smooth roads it rides great. It’s driving 80mph on the expressway and hitting potholes or large cracks where these will hit causing uncomfortable harsh ride.

I’ve resorted to installing and then subsequently removing these anytime I use my travel trailer for longer trips (30minute removal time). I tow a 7000lb loaded travel trailer with an f150 and just needed something to make the soft half ton suspension from porpoising too much on bad-roads. Mission accomplished when towing as I said these things work great for heavy loads. It almost rides better with heavy loads…. I was going to give airbags a try but the reviews from others have scared me from those because even with airbags at the lowest setting you still get the jouncing on bumpy roads.

by:

Easy install took about 20 minutes on my 2017 Ram 3500 SRW. Had about 1/2 inch clearance as recommended. Loaded up my 5th wheel (2350 hitch weight) and about 200 lbs of gear in the bed. Just got back from a 800 mile camping trip through mountains of TN. You can really feel the difference around those sharp corners and uneven surfaces. The truck felt firm and controlled not hard and jarring as some have mentioned. Going over those overpasses with the wonderfully smooth (Not) joists was greatly improved. The truck would squat and rebound again, with a firm controlled response. Driving without a load felt the same as before without them. I would highly recommend these! Ordering from etrailer continues to be my go to option!

by:

Very easy to install on my 2020 Silverado 2500. We pull an Alto 3150 KBH travel trailer over 6,000 miles since we installed the Timbren rear suspension enhancement System. They reduced squat when hitched up. And now no more see sawing down the interstate over concrete expansion joints. My wife noticed the difference in ride on our first trip after install. Great Product!

  • Which Front Suspension Enhancement Will Work For 2021 Ford F150 With Leveling Kit?
Without knowing what particular front leveling kit you have on your 2021 Ford F-150, I recommend the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System # TFF150G. However, even though this system fits with most standard leveling kits, we cannot confirm for sure if this set will work with your specific kit. With that being said, you will need spacers like the Timbren 1" Spacer For Raised Frame Vehicles - 3/8" Bushing # A25723-90AH00 in order to bridge the gap (assuming there is no interference...

  • Using the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System On a Lifted 2015 Ford F-150
We have both front and rear Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems for your 2015 Ford F-150. For the front of your truck you will want to use part # TFF150G and for the rear you will want to use part # TFRTT1504E. Timbren recommends a distance of 1" from the bottom of the bump stop to the top of the contact point. You can achieve this distance on trucks that are lifted using increments of the Timbren 1/2" Spacer part # TA25722-90P00 and the Timbren 1" Spacer part # A25723-90AH00 until the...

The Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System part # TFF150G which is a fit for a 2020 Ford F-150 should not interfere with a leveling kit but they don't all install the same so it'll be up to you to determine combability. • Leveling Out a 2017 Ford F-150 Under a Heavy Load with Suspension Enhancements
Suspension enhancements are a great way to level out your 2017 Ford F-150 (or bring it back to the unloaded height). Of course, with a heavy load in the back, these enhancements won't put them at exactly the truck's unloaded height, but it will come close. For the rear, I recommend the SumoSprings Helper Springs, part # SSR-117-47. These jounce-style springs require less maintenance than air springs like the Timbrens, making them much more convenient. They're also much easier to install....

  • Is There a Replacement Hardware Kit For the Timbren Front Suspension # TFF150G on 2018 Ford F-150?
It does not appear that Timbren offers any replacement parts for their Front Suspension Enhancement System # TFF150G. You will either have to replace the entire system or have new threaded studs welded onto the specialty mounting hardware. The stud is threaded M10x1.5 and is of grade 8 strength. A local welder or auto repair facility should be able to source the parts and weld them on.
