Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Sendel 15 inch by 6 inch Series T17 Matte-Black Aluminum Trailer Wheel with the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now this is an aluminum wheel. It's very durable, lightweight, and rustproof. And we mentioned it's the Sendel Series T17 which is a mesh-style design wheel that has a matte-black finish.
The front, and even the back of the wheel, is clear coated, and this is a high-quality wheel, meets the DOT, Department of Transportation, specifications and the SAE J1204 standards. Now, if you notice, this wheel does not come with a center cap. We do sell those separately if you want to have one. What I do recommend is make sure when you get the center cap that you get one that'll have the same diameter as this pilot hole on the wheel because when you install your center cap, it'll install through this hole, and the pilot hole diameter on this wheel's 3.19 inches. A few specs on this we're gonna measure is the diameter and the width, and the diameter of the wheel is always measured inside to inside.
So, if we take our tape measure, and, if we go straight across, you'll be able to see there's your 15 inch diameter. The width will be the same way. It's measured inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat, and there's your 6 inch wide. And the bolt pattern on this wheel is a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. If you want to measure that bolt pattern on a wheel like this, that's an odd number of lugs, in this case, five.
What you want to do is pick any hole, let's say this hole, and then you're gonna measure across to either this one or to this hole. You can pick either one, but when you measure, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of the hole that you measure to. On this one, it'll measure 4 1/2 inches. So that means this is a 5 lug, 4 1/2 inch wheel. The wheel lug size used on this is 1/2 inch by 20, and the weight capacity on this wheel is 3,200 pounds.
