The first on an 07. The only problem I had was getting the tabs out. Other wise it was simple to install. The feature about this model that I liked is that you don’t see it.
As usual, parts showed up as expected, when expected with the right amount of updates from etrailer. I have done quite a few updates on vehicles over the years and not many of them go as others say. However, I was able to install this one in 5 minutes with no issues on my 2019 Ram 1500. The preload on the shock is perfect, lowers at the right speed and get plenty of assist raising the tailgate. Only thing I recommend is a 90 degree trim tool to pull the plastic push pins out. Very satisfied with this purchase, just dont know why these aren't standard equipment from OEMs.
I have to return it because it is the wrong one for my truck. I must have missed the 2019 & above when I ordered it.
Nothing is wrong I am just returning it and getting the proper one.

It took literally 10 minutes to install because Ram had a better idea. it’s a quality product and it has worked flawlessly. Much more affordable than the similar Ram product. I would recommend this product and best of all unlike the one I installed on a F150 it’s within the truck body out of sight. Thanks eTrailer.

Does a great job! Keeps the tailgate from slamming down. I did have a small problem in cold-weather that it was making noise, but the manufacture agreed to take care of that. Any product you buy could have a problem, but what makes a good company is they stand behind their product.
2020 Ford Ranger. Tailgate damper works as described. Instructions not completely accurate or detailed, but the damper is a simple install. Tailgate uses a T50 bolt head and takes some torque to remove, but follow the instructions of removing only one at a time and replace with the provided hex head screws. The truck bed bolt (the one reused) required a T45 bit (not the T50 in the instructions). The install of the upper damper bracket again was simple but the instructions did not state where the original flat washer was to be re-installed or not. I put it on the outside of the bracket. Popped the damper on the attachment point. Done.
A must-have for your tailgate. My 2021 GMC Sierra has the optional kicker speaker system which added weight to the tailgate. The tailgate assist does really a good job in slowing it down when opening.
Installation was easy and instructions were clear and simple to understand. Product seems to be of good quality and came complete.

Bought a new Ford Ranger in June of 2019. Ford had not yet made the part for my tailgate available at it's dealers out here in Hawaii. Ordered this item from etrailer.com, they did not have the part yet either, but they stayed in touch with me for 3 months...GREAT follow up!!!
