Video Transcript for Inno Roof Rack Installation - 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Hi everyone. It's Evangeline, right here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Inno Roof Rack System with the Inno Square Crossbars, the Inno Feet for Square Crossbars, and the Custom Fit Inno Fit Kit on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. So, this is the Square Roof Rack System from Inno. You have different options for your Chevrolet Traverse. You could get Aero Crossbars, which are that more modern crossbars, or you could get these Square Crossbars.

Some reasons you might like them, is maybe you have older accessories that can only fit around square crossbars, or if you want something lighter, or if you want more overhang and have the ability to do so, you can with square crossbars. You do get an overhang of 2 1/4 inches of overhang from the tower to the endcap. So, this will determine, if you do have other accessories, let's say kayak carriers that require a little bit more overhang, you can very easily upgrade to longer crossbars if needed. The crossbars themselves have a weight capacity of 220 pounds, which is very impressive. But remember, you are limited by whichever is lower of the weight capacities, be it your crossbars, your towers, or your actual roof weight capacity.

In our case here, our Inno Feet for Square Crossbars has a weight capacity of 132 pounds. So, that's kinda being pretty much a limiting factor. Now, this is a lockable system. Meaning once you have these keys, you could just put them right into your towers, and this allows you to loosen or tighten down your towers and just help deter theft of your roof rack. While the Traverse can have raised side rails, or it might also not have raised side rails, in our case here, this is a naked roof, so we do have this custom-fit kit for our roof.

Now, the downside to that is you are limited to a very specific spot on your vehicle to place those towers, which gives you a crossbar spread of 26 inches from this point to that point. And that will be the crossbar spread that you will have to use with whatever accessory you have on there. I am five two, and as you can see, it's kind of a reach to get onto the top of our Chevrolet Traverse, which may be something worth considering with getting more or less overhang. Another thing I recommend adding to your repertoire is maybe you should take a look at the Moki doorstep, which hooks right into your door and gives you a little extra height, which may be useful as you have a roof box, a roof basket, or let's say you're strapping down a kayak. Now, let's talk about roof clearance.

So, first is the clearance from the lower crossbar to the top of your roof. That's gonna be the clearance for your clamps, or if you have skis and snowboards, you wanna see if there's enough space for your bindings before they hit your roof. So, measuring from the roof to the crossbar, it's at about 3 1/4 inches. As for the roof height this adds to your vehicle, it sits at about 4 1/4 inches. The crossbar itself is made of steel, but it is coated with this rubberized material, which is gonna help with scuffs and scratches, but also keeps this system on the lighter side as it's on your booth, but while maintaining its great weight capacity. So, my personal thoughts about our Inno Roof Rack here on our Traverse, is I do like the Aero Style Crossbars, simply because I like to use the more modern accessories that utilize the T-track channels, and things like that. But, I do understand that others still have accessories that work best with the square design on your more traditional crossbars. Also, they do sit a little bit more low profile, and they're on the easier side to throw on, compared to the Aero Crossbars from Inno. So, you have your pros, you have your cons. I personally recommend upgrading to the aero system if you can, but if you need that extra overhang, this is still a good system that will work on your Traverse. So, the install process is kind of involved, but that's what this video is for, right Because, we wanna make sure that you get the correct rear crossbar and the front crossbars in the correct places. You're gonna have three sets of things, which is gonna be your fit kit, and those have different foot pads with different numbers. Then you have your towers, and these are gonna be what's holding your crossbars up in place. And finally, you have your square crossbars. So, first we're gonna set up the fit kit with the tower. Notice how your fit kit has a number underneath the foot pad. So this is four two seven, and that's gonna go on your front crossbar. And then you're gonna have another set, which is four one nine, and those go on the rear crossbars. Since I already installed the rear crossbar, we can install the front crossbar together. So, get your foot pad and just pop it into the tower itself. Once those foot pads are set up and secure, you're then going to set up the fit hooks. So, you may have a lock on the end of your tower, kinda like what I have here, so that has to be unthreaded first. Once that's out, you also have this lock, and that's gonna go to the side as you place your hook in, kinda fit that into place, and then get this lined up as well. And do the same thing on the other tower. With your towers now set up, you can then attach the towers to your crossbar. So, notice where this lock is. If you push that lock down, you can see how the bracket on the top of your tower goes down as well. So, get that lined up and just push that down, because that's gonna be what you'll use to attach your crossbar. Once you have that push down enough, it should slide right onto that crossbar. Now do the same on the other side, and then you can take some measurements. So, you're gonna measure the stay interior dimensions. And what that means, is measuring from one crossbar tower to the other crossbar tower. You're gonna get a specific length. That length is going to be inside your instructions. It's gonna be different for your front and your rear. So for your rear crossbar, which is this, it's going to be 47 1/4 inches long. To also make sure that your towers are in the right spots, Inno gives you the halfway mark instructions as well. So for your rear crossbar, it's gonna be from the center of the crossbar, there should be a marker on your crossbar, all the way to the end of the stay. It's going to be 23 5/8 inches to that point. So measure it and then address it accordingly. And now that we have our tower set to exactly where we want them to be, the next step is to put it onto our vehicle, but first let's take some measurements. So, you're gonna install your towers at a very specific point on your Chevrolet Traverse. So, for your rear tower it's going to be from the seam of your door, 21 3/4 inches to the center bolt of your tower. And then for your front crossbar, it's gonna be four inches from that seam towards the front of your vehicle. So, I have my friend, Tom, here, who's gonna help me out. We're gonna bring this up and over our vehicle, being very careful as we open the door, and then place it four inches away from that door seam. So, once you determined that it is four inches from that front seam, you're gonna then going to lift this hook up, and tighten this bolt down. It's a good amount of thread, so just keep going until it fully secures. Once you feel like you've gotten it tightened enough down, push this in, and then twist the lock to secure it. So, since that hook is custom-fit for your vehicle, once you do have it tightened down, don't be afraid to just slam your door on it, because it fits right in there. Don't forget to put the rubber endcaps onto your square crossbars. And once all four of those are in place, that's it for the install. And that was a look right here at our Inno Square Roof Rack system, here on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. My name is Evangeline, and I hope you enjoyed the journey..

These bars are excellent. I like the coating to protect whatever you're hauling. There is absolutely 0 flex with my kayak mounted, unlike the aluminum aero bars I upgraded from.

Been a month haven’t received them yet they are in stock but guess we are waiting for one item which it’s in stock date gets pushed back every day. And the company doesn’t let the customer know the date changes or when they will send it.

Easy to install, great instructions, looks good, will use for bikes and kayaks, a welcome edition to our gas saver car

2015 Honda Civic

Good quality rack system, easy to assemble and install, works well, looks good, fair price, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. I appreciate the guidance I received from William B. at the beginning of my search for a roof rack to carry a canoe on my 2015 Honda Civic. Two thumbs up for this purchase.

Easy to install and have worked great so far!

Super easy to install and remove. Lock feature is great

Volkswagen Golf

Works well, has stayed attached with no issues. We've used them (plus the bars) to keep a canoe and a rocket box on the car at different times throughout the year (not at the same time, it's on a tiny golf).

Incredible engineering: does not feel like an aftermarket rack. Easy to take off if necessary. Solid; highly recommend.

by:

Perfection!!!

by:

Worked great! Traveled with a carrier on these racks from Chicago to Seattle. No issues, would buy again!

by:

Perfect fit.

by:

Shipping took considerably longer than originally promised. Product quality & value I consider both to be good.

by:

I have two standup paddle boards that literally live in the racks, and have since day one.
The racks are awesome.

by:

Really great value! No need to spend a lot on Thule. Even those these are square shaped I actually don't hear much road noise. Besides, you're gonna have music playing or riding with the windows down anyway. I would definitely buy these again.

by:

Missing Parts - I am missing two of the end-caps for the INB117. What is the deal with INNO quality control that it cannot get 4 of these in a box at the same time and tape it shut? I did a search on Google and apparently this a a known QC issue!

by:

Odelia was extremely helpful in helping me choose the right product. I had an end-cap that was missing and she sent me whole package of four. This is the kind of customer support one hopes to receive when deciding to spend a few hundred dollars on a product. I will definitely return to etrailer if I need another car rack for our other car.

by:

I am a fifty-four year old single woman and being able to install these roof racks by myself makes me feel empowered!!
I watched a video emailed with my delivery confirmation of an installation on a similar vehicle all the way through first, and then watched it again as I did the steps myself, pausing when I needed to.
The products appear to be of high quality, were packaged/shipped neatly and it was easy to organize everything for installation. I couldn't be happier!

by:

Installation is easy. Just follow directions. Front bar parts are different than rear bar parts so you need to look at part numbers and use in correct location. Rack is only rated for 100 pounds but looks and feels much stronger than rating. As noted square bars do create lot of wind noise when driving. Purchase this product to carry my Canoe and it does that at almost $200 less than other rack systems on market. For me the square bars are better fit with ratchet straps to hold Canoe down. Hard to find ratchet strap with hook to fit areo bars.
Dislike. No way to level square bars. With car on level ground high point to high point on bars is level. But each bar is off by 1/8" front to back. Wish they were round bars.

by:

Waited till I put the new rack to work before review. Used it the first time today and it worked Great. Seems like a very durable rack system. Love that everything is rubber coated so it doesnt scratch the paint on your car. Installing instructions where a little confusing but found YouTube videos from etrailer on how to install exact rack system.

Quick and responsive customer service! Thank you etrailer!

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for 2015 Mini Cooper Hardtop for Carrying Kayaks
While we don't have a Rola roof rack confirmed as a fit for your 2015 Mini Cooper with a hardtop I do have a great economically priced option that is a confirmed fit and would work great for carrying a kayak. For that I'd recommend the Inno roof rack part numbers # INB117, # INSUT, and # INK463. This a square bar roof rack that is custom fit for your vehicle that comes with all of the needed components to fit. Then for a kayak carrier the Yakima JayLow part # Y04073 is a really great...

This is a semi-custom rack though so it wouldn't fit quite as well a custom rack that is specifically designed with your vehicle in mind. However, when it comes to bike racks there is another factor that comes into play, leverage on the hitch tube. The more bikes the rack holds the longer it tends to be, naturally. You can reuse your 46" square crossbars so altogether here are the parts for the complete roof rack: 46" Square Crossbars - # INB117 Feet for Square Crossbars - # INXP Custom Fit Kit - # IN33FR This setup will work great with the Kuat Grip Ski and Snowboard Carrier #...

  • Clearance Between Vehicle Sunroof and Roof Rack Crossbars of Inno Square Bar Roof Rack
Roof rack makers generally do not recommend operating a vehicle's sunroof when an aftermarket roof rack is installed. Even if there is no clearance issue between the bottom of the crossbars and the top of the sunroof there would be a lot of noise from wind turbulence at the bars that would likely make you want to keep the sunroof closed anyway. Also note that any roof-rack-mount accessory item you might install on the crossbars - say a bike rack or cargo carrier - will use some type of...

I've linked a short review and installation video of this kit for you to check out.

  • How Do I Know Which Roof Rack Accessories Will Work With My Roof Rack On 2012 Scion XB?
When determining if certain accessories can be mounted to a roof rack system you want to look at a few things. First, if it is a clamp-on accessory then you to make sure it can fit the style of roof rack that you have (square, round, aero etc.). You then want to check the max crossbar dimensions that the accessory can fit and make sure the roof rack is not bigger than that max dimension; these dimensions are typically listed on the product page of roof racks and any roof rack-mounted accessories....

  • Roof Rack and Paddleboard Carrier Recommendations for a 2010 Subaru Legacy
The Semi-Custom roof rack # SR1010 is listed for your 2010 Subaru Legacy. Since it is semi-custom it won't be the best fit like a true custom fit rack would be. If you are interested in a true custom fit rack I recommend an Inno rack using the following parts: bars # INB137, foot pack # INSUT, and fit kit # INK851. With either roof rack installed you can then add a paddleboard carrier. The Yakima SUPDawg # Y04075 is a popular option. It can hold up to 2 paddleboards that are up to 36 inches...

I recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Rack System, # RRVA137B-2 Vortex Aero Bars, # RRRLKVA 2500 Series Legs, and # DK152 Fit Kit. The Vortex crossbars are a more aerodynamic bar that will cut down on wind drag and noise. The bars are constructed of lightweight aluminum and provide a low-profile and sleek design. The proper part number for your fit kit is # INK413. These have the parts for the fit kit. Of course, I cannot confirm if this will work for you since I cannot 100% confirm that you have the square bar and the Inno Feet, part # INSUT. • Trailer Hitch and 4 Bike Carrying Recommendation for 2009 Lincoln MKZ
The Curt # C11329 is indeed a fit for your 2009 Lincoln MKZ. This would work great for you. You can use an adapter like # HTAD, but there's 2 problems with doing that. Both the hitch and bike rack manufacturers state that no more than 2 bikes should be carried in a bike rack used in a Class I hitch. Adding a 3rd and 4th bike moves too much weight too far away from the hitch receiver tube which can apply enough leverage to damage the hitch or cause the attachment points to the vehicle...
