Video Transcript for Derale Radiator Fans - Belt-Driven Fans - D17015 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Derale 15-inch Heavy-Duty, Standard Rotation, Stainless Steel Flex Fan. This is a belt-driven design. It has a 10,000 RPM rating. Now this fan will increase your fuel economy, your horsepower, and your torque. It improves the overall performance. It will pull more air at the lower speeds than your factory fan, because of the larger surface area.

It has the 6 blades. This is designed so that the blades will flatten out at higher RPM, when your vehicle speed alone will give you sufficient air flow. It has this nice, heavy-duty steel hub and the durable, reinforced, stainless steel blades. This part is made in the USA. Again, a few specs on it. The rotation is a standard rotation, which means a clockwise rotation.

The way you can tell that is that, if you stand at the front of your vehicle looking at the engine, the fan would rotate clockwise. This is rated up to 10,000 RPMs. Now, the flange bolt spacing, which is these 4 elongated holes right here, it is adjustable at anywheres from 1-3/4 inches up to 2-1/4 inches. The pilot hole in the very middle, it's 5/8-inch diameter. Just want to give you a dimension on the fan itself. Overall width from edge to edge, see, is going to be right at 14-3/4 inches.

Then the depth of the whole fan itself is going to be right at 2-3/4 inches deep. That should do it for the review on the Derale 15-inch Heavy-Duty, Standard Rotation, Stainless Steel Flex Fan. This is a belt-driven design; has a 10,000 RPM rating.

  • Is a Radiator Fan Supposed to Spin Freely By Hand When the Engine is Off and Not Running
If there is a fan clutch between the fan and radiator on your vehicle, then you will be able to turn the fan by hand when the engine is off and not running. If there is no clutch, the fan would be difficult to turn because you would have to turn the fan and the pulley, which are turned by a belt. If the fan is turning freely with no clutch, then there is a problem with either the belt being loose or the pulley will need adjustments. A fan clutch will look like part # D22175, just as an...

  • Electric Fan Kit Recommendation for 1981 Pontiac Firebird
Most people when upgrading either type of belt driven fan end up going with a totally electric setup as that's far superior to both. We don't have a way to upgrade a belt driven fan to a fan clutch setup but we can help convert to an electric fan which will cool better and free up horsepower. For that you'd want a fan kit with an electric thermostat like the Flex-a-lite Direct Fit LoBoy Electric Fan with Adjustable Thermostat Controller # FLX318. This comes with a thermostat so that you...

  • How to Determine if Vehicle Has Bad Fan Clutch
I would not ever recommend attempting to stop a radiator fan of a vehicle with a running engine...I suspect you have a bad fan clutch though if your fan doesn't seem to be turning like it should. Here's the recommended and easy way to test that. Before starting the vehicle for the day go out and spin the fan as hard as you can. If the fan rotates more than 5 times you have a bad clutch. A good clutch will normally stop before spinning 3 times if not sooner. You should feel some resistance...

  • Swapping The Fan Blade On My 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L
If the fan is cracking, the shroud is probably the next to go. Head gets to these older vehicles over time. I've had a 1988 Ranger with a swapped 4.0L and the fan was replaced for similar reasons. That being said, I highly recommend swapping out the whole assembly with something like this # FLX188. This way you don't run into any issues and have to swap parts again. I was happy with the whole assembly swap on my ranger and I think you will too. I've found that replacing everything now...

  • Electric Fan Kit Recommendation to Replace Slow Fan on 1999 GMC Jimmy
If your vehicle fan was operating properly you would not be able to stop the fan with your hand without injury. That's a sign that your fan has a problem. Without proper air flow through the radiator you will have overheating issues like you described. A great solution would be an electric fan kit like the Derale Dyno-Cool Fan with Thermostat # D16314. This will replace your current fan setup with an electric fan that comes with it's own thermostat which you can use to adjust when the...
