Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels of your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within the spare tire compartment of your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Thank you for reaching out. The only issue with the trailer hitch is that the rear muffler does not have enough clearance and Knocks against the hitch mounting brackets on the passenger side of the vehicle. Any advice or direction to remedy this would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards

@Andre Not only do I have some advice for you, I have a whole article! This should do the trick - it's actually not a terribly uncommon issue. Check out the link.

Great customer service and fast delivery. The ladies on the phone were super knowledgeable & friendly. I haven't installed the hitch yet, but I'm sure that it is the exact fit.

by:

I'm 70 years old and did the entire install myself other than running the power cable up to the battery from the rear bumper. I would have done that as well but couldn't fit under the vehicle without jacking it up. My local gas station did that for free in about 5 minutes. It went in easily. It is working fine. Very happy with the product. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I ordered the T-one Vehicle Wiring Harness for a 2013 Hyundai Tucson to put on my Mother-in-laws vehicle. The instructions were okay, but I just had to throw them out. After I removed the first piece that I was supposed to in order to run the wiring harness through, the wires wasn't long enough to reach the tail lights, and the hole was too big for the rubber piece that was on the harness. I ended up having to run the harness a different route and everything was mounted underneath the vehicle. Hopefully wet weather doesn't affect the functioning of the harness.

by:
2016 Hyundai Tucson

Wiring for the driver's side is about 3" too short, it's workable but close. The hitch went on very easily, about 20 minutes, and that was laying on the ground to install. I'm 70 years old and did it by myself. Great product.
The tester I26 made checking the wiring very easy.
Items arrived on time and I'm good condition. Very happy with my purchase.

I’m not very mechanically inclined, but MAN! This product was easy to install, and exactly what I needed. I used etrailers video to help with installation, and it was like having someone walk me through the process. Make sure you get a fish tape or something to help run the wire.

The product itself isn’t complex… if you want to add a harness for trailer lights to your Tucson, this is the kit. I have no complaints and am so glad I purchased from etrailers.

by:
2012 Hyundai Tucson

This was clearly designed for my car (2012 Hyundai) as the wires were all the right lengths and the connectors snapped together easily and positively. The directions were surprisingly good. The only issue (a small one) was that the access hole they refer to was visible from under the car but not from the spare tire well as implied in the directions. It was easy to fish the wires through (a coat hanger or kids with small hands make it easy!) and into the trunk.

There was a delay in delivery, but I was contacted a couple of times to inform me of this and to assure me that it was soon to be on its way. I received it about two days later. Appreciated the note to let me know. The delay (about 5 days) was not an issue for me.

Highly recommended- both the product and etrailer.com.

It has been trouble free and far better than the local trailer retailer harness that was originally installed and failed. I remain very happy.

by:

Everything installed very easily and the provided videos on the website was very helpful

by:

I received the harness on time with three day shipping. It took about 1 1/2 hours to install. Any time I got confused, I watched your video. The directions are very good, but having the video for my vehicle made it a breeze!
The lights run off the car battery, instead of the existing wires, eliminating short circuits. 100% better than the $15 harness I was going to get.
The light plugs fit perfectly! NO SPLICING WIRES!
I highly recommend this harness!

Just used a rental trailer last week. The harness actually got compliments on the the harness system from the rental employees for how neat the harness was! I told him I got it online at E-trailer.com. He will be a customer for sure.

You guys have GREAT Customer Service. I like the products too

by:

The wire harness has held up well. I have not had any issues with it working. After reviewing a video on how to remove the tail lights, the installation was simple and straightforward.

More important, I sumitted the wrong year of my car, hence the wrong harness. When brought to etrailers attention, they were chill about it and directed me to return the the harness and sending out the correct one.

Definitely my go to company for wiring harness needs.

by:
2017 Hyundai Tucson

Everything was ok with this till you try to reinstall tail lights, The T connectors are close to one another and need more length to drop extra plug down into body,
Extra connector stops tail light from mounting between body and light fixture,
Other than that it's ok.

Connector corroded before I could even use harness had to replace with another connector even with supplied cover. Other than that problem everything else is fine and still would buy from them again

2016 Hyundai Tucson

it for sure was not easy and all the videos were saying a 2016 but for sure not my 2016 was not as stated . sorry but poor rating , what was the problem as the whole that was for pulling up the wires had wires in that rubber , where you say to pull up I could not even put in a finger but did get the 4 prong connector threw after I pulled off a bunch of plastic that broke as it was not made to come off I think . then the black box was too big threw the whole and as far as the rest iot did not go better POOR would take pics to show how I just taped it to the out side , also that self taping screw I had to drill a hole first as here you said to put just did not work in that area

Thank you for your review! It seems like there is a little confusion with some of the installation steps. I took a look at the installation instructions and they do mention there could be an existing wire in the grommet. You will need to cut the rubber piece of the t-connector to allow the wire through. The instructions also address needing to drill a hole for the ground in step 8. And finally, the converter box will not go through the grommet hole, it will be taped in the cargo area like shown in the video at time stamp 04:40 of the 2015 Tucson installation video. If you continue watching the install video from there, you will see how and where they drill down the ground wire. I hope this helps!

Great.

by:

Everything was as described. The videos were very helpful. The only point where I needed help (other than a second person helping during the install) was tightening the nut on the ball where it mounts to the tongue. This requires a LARGE wrench. A local muffler/radiator shop was glad to do it and didn't even charge me. I have used the hitch several times now and on one occasion pulled a U-Haul trailer full of furniture from south Florida to north Texas. On another occasion I pulled a trailer that was VERY heavily loaded with flooring about 50 miles over some very uneven roads. The hitch has always performed perfectly. Could not be happier with the product or the company.

by:
2015 Hyundai Tucson

If, AND ONLY IF, you follow the instructions and install this the way they say, it works fantastically. In my 2015 Hyundai Tucson, I first installed this with the connector mounted in an enclosure and attached to my hitch, creating a more factory look for the harness. In order to do this, I had to leave the converter box mounted underneath the vehicle (instead of inside). It worked great for about a month, at which point the box got wet enough that water caused the connections inside to arc and it melted the converter box.

Round 2, I followed the instructions and installed the box inside the car and pull the wire out through the back hatch when I need it. It's worked great for the last year without any issues. I highly recommend, but only if you follow the instructions! The installation video is your friend!

by:

This hitch is great! Very simple to install and it fit perfectly on my 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The wiring took a little bit of time but went together just as they said. I am thoroughly pleased with every step from buying to installing. Thank you etrailer!

2012 Hyundai Tucson

I installed this trailer wiring harness in my 2011 Hyandai Tucson this morning. The install went very well and my trailer lights work now. I was not sure I could do the job and was leaning to taking it to a shop and paying them to install a new wiring harness. After talking to Mike at etrailer he answered my questions and I decided to order and give it a go myself. The installation video on the 2012 Tucson was very clear and thorough and gave me the confidence I needed to start the job. Other than that my tail light assemblies took a lot more pulling to remove than in the video, it went just like the video. I like how the control unit is housed inside the car and not hanging in the rear fender like my old one where it was exposed to snow and road salt which eventually led to it failing. I am very pleased with the product, the price, delivery and the installation video. The only thing I did not use was the butt connector. I substituted a heat shrink butt connector as I think that is more weather proof and secure than a standard butt connector and electrical tape. I hope it lasts a long time. The installation videos are awesome.

Awesome product fit perfectly not too difficult to install.

So far this harness has not failed unlike the one I bought previously. I forget the brand name that failed but something in the black box caused problems with the Hyundai's electrical system.

After searching the web for a trailer hitch, I finally found etrailer. I was impressed with the products and prices offered, but it was the support that really got my attention. After pricing a new hitch at the dealers, I was going to get the hitch only, but the price was very expensive. Now this included it installed, but it was for just the hitch. Through etrailer, I purchased the hitch I wanted plus the wiring kit, the ball mount, the ball, and a mount cover. All this and it was still just a little over half of the dealer price. The support came when I emailed them expressing my concern over installing it myself. The expert advice I got and continued support, convinced me that it was possible. I really enjoyed tracking this order as it shows on a map the shipping origin and where the truck was as compared to the ending shipping destination. Because I live in NY and we still have snow on the ground and it is very cold, I have not installed it yet. It was very well packed and arrived in great shape. I have already told a friend about etrailer and I will definitly use them for any trailer needs I may need int the future.

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for 2012 Hyundai Tuscon
We do have universal tail light wiring harnesses available, however for your 2012 Hyundai Tuscon, a powered converter module is required to safeguard the vehicle's wiring and to provide enough power for the trailer lights. Because of this, the universal kit that will include everything needed for installation is the Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Wiring Harness # 119250KIT, which is actually less cost-efficient than the custom harnesses designed to fit your vehicle. I think you gave them solid advice...but as far as if a trailer hitch will void the warranty that answer is no. When you install an aftermarket part on your vehicle like a trailer hitch in this case, you are protected by the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. Unless your trailer is unusually well lit, the # C56348 wiring harness should have plenty of capacity. The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # 118501 needs a dedicated 12 volt power source to function correctly. You can not run this harness to an interior fuse box. That will damage the ModuLite and eventually fry your fuses.
