Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the RockyMounts Pivot U-Lock. Now, if you're familiar with U-locks to keep your bicycle safe, this is going to change up the game a little bit. It is a pivoting U-lock. When I say that, what I mean is, once we insert the key here, get this lined up, give it a twist, instead of this whole base being removed, it just pivots like that.So it's going to stay connected, we're not going to have to worry about losing this piece, trying to mingle them together, to get them attached.
It's simply going to have this one connection point here to be connected. Once we push it together, the key will turn into the lock position and we just pull it out, and it's already locked. Insert the key again, turn it to the unlock position, and it comes disconnected. So it's going to be very easy, once we pass this through our tire or the frame of our bike, just simply push it into place and it's going to lock for us, we're not going to have to worry about holding the two pieces together while we turn the key to get it locked. It's going to be very easy to use. Does come with three keys.
So for those of you who happen to lose your keys frequently, we gave you plenty of options there. This is made of a hardened steel construction, so it's going to be very durable. It's going to take a lot for a thief to try and get your bike away from wherever you have it locked to. But it also has a silicone overmold that's going to help protect the finish of your bike, so you're not going to have to worry about getting it dinged or anything like that. It's also going to help when you're in the cold, it's not going to be as cold as grabbing on to an exposed metal. And then our key chamber here also has a shutter that's going to protect that keyway from any dirt and debris, so we don't have to worry about that getting all clogged up and making it difficult to turn. This does have a safety rating of six, and on the RockyMounts scale of security that would enable it to work for your college and university campuses, as well as your large cities.
So they've given it that rating trusting that it is sturdy enough to make sure that even in those settings, you're not going to have to worry about anyone stealing your bike.I do want to give you a few measurements here to make sure that this is going to work for your setup. Our total inner diameter here of our U-bolt shank, sorry, shackle is right about 6-1/2", and then width of it is going to be right about 3-1/2. So should be enough to get around the frame of your bike, get a lock to the bike rack, or wherever you are mounting this to keep it safe. This shackle, this shackle arm diameter is right about 14-mm, so it is pretty thick and that is just the steel portion, that's not including the silicone over-mold. So it's about 15-1/2-mm once you include that silicone there.
So it's going to be very durable, not going to have to worry about anyone breaking it apart or anything like that.As far as our base, we're looking at right about 5-3/8" wide, by about 1-3/4" tall, just under 2". It's a little difficult to see what the angle of the camera there. And then a thickness, looking at right about 1-1/2" thick. So like I said, this is very nice to not have to worry about pulling these two pieces apart, trying to get them fitted back together, and locked at the same time. It's going to be very easy to use. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty from RockyMounts, and that's really all there is to this. I recommend this anytime you have a bicycle that you're wanting to make sure it doesn't walk away on you. It's going to be a great option for those of you who are frequent bike riders in your college campus or a large city. That's going to complete our look. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
