Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this OptiMate 5 Select 8-step AC to DC 6 volt, 12 volt Smart Battery Charger and Maintainer. Now, this is a nice compact smart charger, it'll draw power from your AC wall outlet to automatically charge and maintain the batteries on your cars, trucks, motorcycles, RV, golf carts, and even ATPs. This will work with both 6 volt and 12 volt standard AGM, gel, SLI, and deep cycle lead-acid batteries. Does give you multiple battery profiles, and let you charge a variety of lead-acid battery types at different voltages, and this one does use an 8-step charging algorithm that automatically charges and maintains without overcharging. Basically, it'll analyze the battery condition to provide a customized charge for that battery.

Does also even offer a built-in battery desulfator, which will restore loss battery capacity, it will save sulfated batteries as low as 0.5 volts, and this will also test automatically, and indicate if there's a battery problem. It comes with two different types of connections, we have the standard battery clamps that'll provide a nice quick easy way to connect to your battery, and on this end, is the SAE connector that'll connect to this end here. Total length on this cord is about 20 inches. The other way, it comes with a little more permanent connection, this is the eyelet connection. This will let you make a secure connection to your battery terminals.

Does include inline, a 15 amp fuse, that'll protect the electronics from potential short circuits, and it also has an SAE connector on this end, 'cause this one's used in more permanent applications, this one even offers a weather proof seal and a cap, helps keep out any dirt and water, and the same length on this cord is 20 inches as the other one. Now, this is a simple operation, uses LED lights that will indicate the charging status. The case is a durable weatherproof case, and includes the wall mounts, two at the bottom, two at the top here. Has a six foot AC supply lead at the top, and a six foot charge lead with the SAE connector at the bottom. Also, what's nice, it comes with a set of instructions, but also on this charger, has a QR code that you can scan, and it'll even give you the instructions also, they shouldn't only have the booklet nearby.

Few specs on this, the application is 6 volt batteries from 3 to 160 amp hours, 12 volt batteries from 3 to 120 amp hours, and as we've mentioned, the battery types this'll support is standard AGM, gel, SLI, and deep cycle. Maximum charging amperage at 6 volts is four amps, at 12 volts is three amps.
