This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball.
Unlike most couplers, which only have a pin hole on the handle latch, the eZ-Latch coupler features a hole on the latch and on the side of the coupler itself. Inserting a coupler lock through this hole will keep the latch from lifting, preventing disconnect and theft.
Made of sturdy steel, this coupler features a durable zinc coating that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This finish has a 300-hour salt spray rating, allowing it to stand up to the elements.

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at a Demco Trailer Coupler.This cast ball coupler lets you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. It simply provides a connection point for your hitch ball. It is designed to work with a 2-5/16" hitch ball, and the unit has a weight capacity of 21,000 pounds.Now, this unit features the eZ-Latch mechanism. This ensures simple, secure hook up and disconnect. The eZ-Latch design basically lets you hook up with the latch in the closed position. All you have to do with the eZ-Latch design is drop the coupler over the hitch ball, and then the latch will snap into place, engaging the hitch ball.
Now, when you want to release, or disconnect, then you still have to lift up on the handle right here, but again, the eZ-Latch design is when you're connecting. All you got to do is drop this over your hitch ball, engages automatically without having to lift up or disengage the actual lever and trigger right here.It's designed to fit into a channel bracket, so the adjustable channel mount design lets you change the coupler's height, depending on your application. Channel bracket and mounting hardware are sold separately, and available at etrailer.com if needed.We're looking at a sturdy steel construction, with zinc finishing, which offers corrosion resistance. It does have a 300 hour salt spray rating, and it's SAE J684 certified.Now, this is designed to fit inside of a 3" wide channel bracket. We can tell that by taking a measurement edge to edge right here.
The mount holes on the unit are separated on center by 2", and the overall length of the unit, measuring front to back, gives us a measurement of about 8-1/8".Also on this unit, you have two pin holes, so you can either install your standard coupler pin, or if you want to upgrade it, add more security when you're connected, and when you're disconnected, you could actually upgrade to a coupler lock. So, you have a pin hole right here, and a pin hole right here. This one basically keeps the wedge from being operable, so that would be great for your unattended trailer, as well as your connected trailer. Then this one right here would keep the handle from being able to operate, which again would be great for your connected trailer or your unattended trailer.The diameter of those pin holes is 5/16". The span or usable pin length needed for this one up here is going to be about 1-1/8.

Hitch works great, almost no chance of user error, very positive coupling with min. play on the ball. Zinc plate is thick and uniform. No chance to damage the paw it's very robust.
I did have to drill the lock pin holes with 8mm bit because a 5/16" hasp on the lock was to tight.

The coupler that came with our teardrop did the job, but getting hooked up and secure on the ball was a real pain that would take multiple attempts to reposition it before it dropped fully in place. I like the Demco eZ-latch. So much better. I uploaded 3 photos: 1) original coupler, 2) trailer frame with new holes drilled and old holes filled with Bondo, 3) Demco coupler in place. The changeover was very easy.
It is the best used yo have a the older style i was always worried if it had latched correctly but with this latch system I dont have to do anything i dont even have to see it i can just hear it click when its latching on its own and i know its right dont forget to buy the pin for it i have actually bought two one for each of my trailers
Great upgrade to my heavy trailers. Would be 5 stars if the locking pin hole would accept a larger diameter lock or a padlock.
The ease of latching and not having to lift the latch handle is very nice and unlachine it's a breeze, works very well very happy with the coupler
The hitch is excellent for our 14,000lb equipment trailer.
Only issue is the hole for the padlock was too small for any locks and we drilled it out to accommodate one.
Con- Shipping was not very good. It was returned to the dealer twice because it was sent via United Postal Service and our shop has not Post office box. Only a location address. The USPS does not take packages to our location. We could not seem to get the package sent via UPS or FedEx to us.
Only time this has happened when ordering from etrailer.
Was the perfect part to replace the pintle hitch that was previously on my 15K trailer.
Very good quality, construction, and finish. This was used to replace a 5000# rated coupler on my RV trailer that was just not strong enough. It has an extra 2-3" of length than the old coupler so make sure your safety chains have enough length to accommodate the extra length. One bonus for me was that the extra length was just enough to allow me to open the back door of my SUV with the trailer hitched (which I couldn't do before). The DEMCO coupler does take a 2 1/2" wide hitch pin /lock which is different than most couplers.
I’m a 75 year old disabled woman who was about to give up traveling due to the efforts to hitch and unhitch my trailer. I got this new hitch installed and it changed my life; it is effortless. I’m on the beach now while a winter storm is raging around the U.S. thank you so much for a hitch that changed my life.
I didn’t use the bolts it came with. Just got two grade 8 bolts like my pj trailer came with, easier to adjust.
We really like these new Demco eZ Latch styles.
Heavy duty for sure. Drilling 1/2” holes in 1/4” thick angle iron on the trailer required more than a hand drill, but other than that installation was simple. Removing the original coupler was a chore because it was welded on both top and bottom. I had to use a hacksaw (3 blades), 2 lb mallet, large crowbar, steel chisel, grinder. Fortunately I had all that, and I’m very pleased with the result.
Great product! This thing's built like a tank. We're always pulling the heaviest things possible with our trailers and this stands up to the job.
Easy installation and a major upgrade from the oem coupler!
This is the second one I have owned and they work real good. No problems hanging up.
